Miles Aldridge

"...the world is just not being designed with aesthetics as a priority. So I prefer to rebuild the world instead of photographing the real one. What I'm trying to do is take something from real life and reconstruct it in a cinematic way."

I'm sure most people are aware of the work of British born fashion photographer Miles Aldridge. If not, what have you been doing? Hiding under a rock?

Miles' subjects are generally a host of beautiful girls, scantily clad in surreal situations. His work is most identifiable by the saturated colour and unexpected backdrops. A lot of the time the surroundings are those of which he has constructed in a studio.

One of the most popular shoots (and you will see why) was the 'Morning Beauty' shoot with Norwegian model Siri Tollerod for Vogue Italia in  May 2008.

The colour work and attention to detail is absolutely amazing!

Most recently, the editorial for 'A Precious Glam' for Vogue Italia in March 2011, shows a selection of the most beautiful couture gowns with a real 50's vibe. The whole shoot can be found here.

Amateur Couture

Amateur Couture is one of my favourite blogs I have stumbled across on the interweb. It shows the relationship between art, fashion and accessories through beautiful imagery. I've picked out a few of my favourites for your viewing pleasure

This last purple one is my favourite! View the entire blog here

Ode to the Wetsuit

LISA MARIE FERNANDEZ

It seems the line that defines swimwear from outerwear is becoming somewhat blurred. Artists and designers alike are developing new and exciting ways to show that swimwear, really isn't just made for the sea.

For his SS09 collection, California Native Julian Louie created a collection by mixing Neoprene (the durable fabric most commonly used for making wetsuits) with soft tulles and bright pops of colour.

Surprisingly, the merging of fabrics works beautifully. The wetsuit is proving to be inspirational from catwalk to high street, with the Cynthia Rowley for Roxy collaboration hitting the nail on the head.

Michael Kors is no stranger to the trend also having used it for inspiration for his SS09 collection.

The designer looks set to carry on the 'Ode to the Wetsuit' trend debuting neon garments with a twist for his 2012 Resort collection.

I love this trend and I'm looking forward to see what other designers come up with in light of this unexpected pairing.
